How They Met

Jaclyn and Frate graduated from the same high school and didn’t even
know each other. Jaclyn even knew Frate’s brother.

aclyn and I met during our days at UNC Charlotte. I was the pledge ed and all of my pledges
would talk about this one girl, and how they always hung out with her. The guys knew that I was
the sweetheart of the Sigma Kappa sorority at the time, and asked me if I knew this girl named
Jaclyn. They all described her as being very friendly, outgoing, caring…and hot! The thing is that
I was the sweetheart for over a year and had no idea who she was!
Finally, even though it wasn’t planned, I would get that chance to meet her. My buddies were
getting together up at R.J. Gator’s for dinner and wanted to know if I could join them. I really
wasn’t planning on it, but figured I might as well go out. When I walked in, a couple of my brothers
were hanging out with a couple girls from Sigma Kappa, but the first thing I noticed was Jaclyn…and
how beautiful she was.
The seat next to her was open, so I didn’t waste the chance to sit next to her. I said a quick
hello to my friends, and then introduced myself to Jaclyn with a simple “Hey, I’m Frate”. We talked
for a while, and I found that she was everything that my friends described, but so much more.
Jaclyn and I didn’t start dating right away. We both were getting out of relationships and I
always felt that she was too young for me (I was 22, she was 19). That wouldn’t last long because
I kept finding ways to see her…even bringing ice cream to her parents house after she had her wisdom
teeth removed. A month after we met, we went on our first date to Max & Erma’s (college budget!) on
January 10, 2001…and from that point on, no other girl would win my heart, which leads to...
The Proposal
Frate proposed July 25, 2003. It was the night before my 22nd birthday and I was convinced
that Frate was throwing me a surprise party. So I kept trying to get him to slip up and tell me
what the plan was. So that night, I got all dressed up, did my hair, my makeup, and everything
because I wanted to look pretty at my party. I told my mom that if he didn’t have a party for me
or a nice present then I would be ticked off! Ha-ha! Frate usually gets me stuff I need (ex. a
hairdryer) rather than stuff that I want. He came to my apartment to pick me up and he
had something behind his back. It was the SIMs game (which I wanted), then he got down on one
knee and said:
"Why do you want to play the life of a SIM, when you can live the life of an Iafrate.
Jaclyn, will you marry me?"
It was the best!
